Case Study: My Experience With Insulation

Tips for Choosing Residential Insulation

Insulation is done in homes so as to minimize the distractions from outside.Distractions like noise, fire and cold are the main reasons for residential insulation.Fire insulation, acoustic insulation and thermal insulation are the main types of residential insulation mostly depending on the distraction.Choosing a material that can insulate against all three distractions in the best when installing residential insulation.Insulation was rarely done well in the past thus it is good to have old houses reinstalled especially with thermal insulation.High energy bills might be reduced in time by installing a good thermal residential insulation.

There are different methods used for residential insulation and they include the following; blanket and batt insulation, fiberglass insulation, loose fill insulation, foam board insulation, sprayed foam and Rockwell insulation.Blanket insulation is very common because it easy to install in the walls. The main components of the blanket insulation are the batts and rolls which come in different sizes and widths. The blankets and batts are made of different materials with the mineral wool and natural fibers making the batts and the flexible fiber making up the blankets.Fiberglass batt insulation on the other hand is more popular than the blanket batt insulation. It will usually come in different standard widths and thicknesses that will easily fit in the ceilings as well as the walls. When installing the fiberglass batt insulation it is recommended for one to wear protective gear that will prevent them from itching later.

Rockwell insulation is another method used in residential insulation.Rockwell insulation does not require wearing of protective gear and is also easier to install than the fiberglass batt insulation. The main disadvantage of this type of residential insulation is that when it gets wet, it can harbor moisture as well as mold.Another method of residential insulation is the loose fill fiberglass insulation. This is done mostly in the attics because it is puffy and thick. The loose fill cellulose insulation is the most ideal insulation for any climate. The advantage of using the loose fill method is it can be installed in finished buildings or irregularly shaped areas that are out of reach. The loose fill cellulose insulation is done using special equipment that blows it inside the walls.Between the two loose fills, the cellulose insulation is more Eco-friendly.

Another type of residential insulation is the spray foam insulation. The spray foam insulation method should be done by a professional certified personnel. The process involves spraying different liquids that will only mix when being sprayed on the wall. The liquid mixture when sprayed on the wall, it will expand into a foam and later harden into plastic when is done curing.Spray foam is durable and thus more expensive than the other methods. In acoustic insulation or interior soundproofing, one can also use spray foam. The following methods can reduce the noises coming into the house; use of draft guards and door seals, upgrading the windows to thicker ones, installing sound absorbing curtains and installing acoustic ceiling panels.
